Stretch

Guess it's about time I made a post on this new web manga I'm working on. It's called Stretch and is about two female roommates living and stretching together. You could read it as an instruction manga on stretching, but you could also read it as a slice-of-life romance manga. There are 16 chapters out and I've translated the first four so far. I'll be adding more chapters in the next few days. Enjoy.

  1. Thank you for this interesting web comic! *_* I wonder if you give permission to re-translate this manga. I'm a member of an italian scan group (Kokoro Scan Team) and we'd like to re-translate "Stretch" in our language. Can we do it?? *o*
    Let me know, please >.<

    2. Ohh thank you very very much!!! :D

  2. This is a really fun manga so far! The stretching tips are useful and the story seems pretty good too. It really comes off as at least shoujo ai, if not yuri, but it isn't labeled as such. Maybe I'm just wearing yuri-goggles?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Flipping through the RAWs, I thought it was yuri or at least shoujo ai too, but while translating the chapters I noticed they're not even a couple. They're only roommates and haven't been more than friends yet. It can still happen, of course, but so far, I'm at chapter 7 right now, they're just two very close friends. I'll add the tag as soon as something in that direction happens though.

      Delete
    2. well, now that we're in the mid-teens, it is looking a bit more shoujo-ai like. At least Ran has it bad, based on the way she reacted when she found out about Keiko's boyfriend back in high school. From the way Keiko is acting, I think she is starting to come over to the other side too... Can't wait for more! (I'm sad that you're so close to catching up with the available raws! Only 16 chapters out still?)

  3. Huh, no wonder the art style looked familiar. So this is Higashiyama's alt nom de plume.

    1. Aside from the artwork, is there any hard proof?

      Delete
    2. The entry at Dynasty-Scans says so? *shrug* Good enough for me.
Doesn't hurt that the style of narrative and dialogue rings bells too.

      Delete
    3. While it's likely true, there's no definite proof, so it's just speculation.

BTW, the ch 12 link seems wrong: https://plus.google.com/photos/110793535724604745254/albums/5988261037160909777e should be https://plus.google.com/photos/110793535724604745254/albums/5988261037160909777

  20. Is stretching exercises in this one some of the real life one or author just drawn pretty pictures?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. When translating the stretching exercises, I use all kinds of stretching sites as a reference to make sure I don't get anything wrong. So far, every single one of them has been a real one. I don't know if they're good or bad ones, but the author didn't make them up.

      Delete
  21. Thanks for this, btw are we going to get a weekly update on KURO or are you going to wait until more of it is published and release it in a batch?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I decided against a weekly update because some people can't seem to get over the fact that it's only one page a week. I'll release them in small batches of, let's say, 5-6 pages. It depends on what happens in the pages though. If it's something very important, I'd even put out a 1-page chapter.

    1. Thank you very much. I'd gladly translate the extra chapter, but the quality of the pictures is horrendous. Why did the scanner jpg-compress the pictures until they were like 60 to 70 kb each? There are so many artifacts... I wonder if there are any higher-res scans of this.

      Delete
    2. There are some bound scans on /u/: http://boards.4chan.org/u/thread/1522018#p1546698

Not sure if they are usable due to being bound however.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I've seen them. I wouldn't mind using them as they're a lot better quality-wise and I think it's pretty cool to see them bound. It's as if you're actually reading the tankobon, but maybe it's just me. I'll wait a few days and if there are no better scans by then, I'll use the bound ones. Not sure if I should separate the pages to make them look unbound though...

      Delete
  26. Thank you very much for taking into account the request and we knew that would be your answer, do not know how someone so he had thus compress the images. I have no problem with that are bound together, so do as you want, any help from you will be very grateful to me.

  27. OK, thanks to chapter 22 I think I am beginning to understand the backstories of the two girls.

Keiko was engaged to the guy in chapter 21, got pregnant - but lost the baby through miscarriage or illness. Afterwards, their relationship fell apart.

As for Ran, could her father have been killed by the Tōhoku tsunami that occurs in the chapter 22 flashback? We know he died shortly before they moved in together. It would explain Ran staring out at the sea while visiting home for his memorial ceremony, and might also explain the implied financial reversal of her family.

    Thoughts?

In Dynasty has appeared a user and has published scans of the bonus color chapter of the second volume and scans of the extras of the first and the second volume and frankly, the quality of the scans is very good. Is it true that this series has been licensed? Certain manga hosting sites say it is, but I can't find any other evidence to support this. I suspect it's just bullshit but I can't be certain.

    2. I see. Well I'm patient enough xD Thank you for the translations again though (:

As a side note, what would you recommend as a reference to start learning Japanese?

      Delete
    3. I've never taken a Japanese course nor have I ever been to Japan, but I understand pretty much every Japanese text with a bit of help from a kanji dictionary. It's all thanks to the books Genki I and II. I studied them by myself and once I had the grammar down, I started consuming Japanese media (music, manga, anime, TV soaps and shows) like crazy. It took me about two years until I was at a level to start translating simpler manga/texts.

I haven't tried any other books, but the Genki books are really good imo.
