Makai no Ossan FINISHED and Onepunchman DROPPED

Hey, guys, sorry for being unavailable for days (weeks?). I've been very busy lately and I don't think it'll change in the near future. Nevertheless, I've been translating a few pages of Makai no Ossan before going to bed every night and have finally finished it.

Well, what can I say... ONE is a great writer. His art may be not be everyone's cup of tea, but he has all these great ideas. Granted, some of them may be childish and random, but they don't seem out of place at all in the crazy little (under-)world he creates in Makai no Ossan. It was a great ride and I've come to love all the characters as I was translating it. I hope more people will read it now that it's finished.

As for OPM, the dreaded time I announced in this post exactly 10 months ago has arrived at last. Viz' Shonen Jump Alpha has long caught up with OPM and they've already translated the special chapters while I haven't even started. I realize that many of you don't have any legal access to SJA, but considering how busy I've been and I will surely be in the future, I simply don't have the time to translate what is already getting translated, only better, faster and more professionally. Another problem is the weekly/bi-weekly release of OPM. I can't guarantee that I'll have time to translate on Thursdays anymore. It's just not feasible anymore and I'd hate to make the fans of OPM wait. I hope you'll understand my decision.

I still remember how I stumbled on OPM 13 months ago and couldn't believe that it wasn't getting translated. No one seemed to know about it except for the few fans who read Japanese web manga. I just had to pick it up and show it to you all. OPM is now possibly the most popular web manga in the Internet and I'm sure I've done my part in it. Because of OPM's popularity, I'm 100% positive someone else will take my place and continue translating OPM and I've also seen Viz' versions getting uploaded regularly. In any case, I'm not worried about OPM not getting translated in the future, in fact, I think I know some guys who'd love to replace me. I'll keep the OPM chapters in my mediafire for as long as they're needed, so please don't worry about that. Thank you very much for reading my OPM translations all this time.

Now that Makai no Ossan is finished, I don't think I'll get to translate a manga again anytime soon, but if it's a short manga that's already complete like Ketchup Ninja, I might do it in what little spare time I have and upload it as a whole (or at least in big chunks). I guess I'll be focussing on translating the threads a few posts a day.

  1. Hey Boone! I figured something like this might happen. Coincidentally, today, I kept thinking how I could express my gratitude for what you have done for us. I noticed the requests and questions came flooding in at times, and really I'm so appreciative of how patient you are with everyone. I don't know what else I can say.

I also thought about how in Murata's livestream, he mentioned he thought "Huff Puff" Prisoner was a cute name, but the Puri Puri Puri part was meant to match more of the "Pretty". (Even though it was understood that it is a pun.) I guess all I really wanted to say about this when we decided on "Pri Pri Pri" Prisoner in the end, we did good (collectively). ^^

Also, I really hate to end this with this kind of question because I'll sound greedy, but I was wondering if you won't take up on the extra chapters released in the book volumes of OPM? Viz hasn't released the book in print, and they haven't announced they'll do so, though everyone is keeping their fingers crossed. If not, as I understand you are busy, that's fine as well! I'll try my best to get by. -laugh-

Once again, thank you so much. I'll still be checking around for whatever other releases you pick up. I support you all the way in what you want to do, and I wish you the best in keeping up with a busy life!

  2. I'm sad to hear about you dropping Onepunch Man, but you gotta do what you gotta do right? Don't stress out too much and peace!

Also, thanks for finishing up Makai no Ossan! It's an adorable story! And I'll agree that the art goes really well with it.

Good luck on all your future endeavors!

  5. Same as all the others thanks for showing us OPM and Molester man. OPM brought me here and I loved your work on it. But many of us can understand.

I myself thought about scanlation but after testing my speed it would take me a month minimum to translate one chapter and wanted to translate 3 series which obviously wouldn't work out.

So good luck with RL. :)

  11. Noooo...no no no no no! I'm one of those that can't access WSJ-alpha, even if i had the money for it.(for something that is free in japan!) Well, there are some people who upload WSJ-alpha stuff, but they don't have any website or so, so it is hard to find them properly...
but i understand, most scanlators see their job as a sort of bridge until american publishers license a series or catch up to one.
    Well, godspeed to you

  17. Does anyone know where to find the latest Viz One-Punch Man Chapters? I live in Japan so I can't access any of these online Manga sites like Viz and Crunchyroll. It really sucks! Damn region locking.

  25. Where did you see Viz's version being uploaded to?
The problem with SJA is the backlog, if you sub'ed early you get access to older chapter that is not available anymore.
The other problem is that Viz is only US and not available worldwide, which I bet most of your readers are from. The concept of English=US is too outdated.

  26. Thanks for all of the time you dedicated to bringing this title to the eyes of English speaking people.

I enjoyed all of your translations immensely.

I wish you good luck in all of your future endeavors!

  34. I wanted to thank you for your great work. You, together with Emergency Exit, are two of my favourite scanlators (or are you possibly one and the same...? I can only guess.) You gave us the best we can get as foreigners and self-proclaimed western otaku.. the 2ch threads alone are more valuable than many books on Japan. Always looking forward to seeing your new translations.

    Cheers
